HS2 Threatened Tree In Contention For European Prize

The veteran pear tree at Cubbington in Warwickshire which would need to be removed to build HS2 has made it through to the finals of the European Tree of the Year.

The Cubbington veteran pear tree has already won England’s Tree of the Year competition.

As a result of this victory the tree was automatically entered into the European Tree of the Year competition, which is decided by an on-line public ballot. This ballot is currently running and closes on 29th February.

If you feel that this magnificent tree should be crowned winner of the European prize please go to http://www.treeoftheyear.org/Uvod.aspx and vote.

Whilst this tree is currently doing well in comparison with most western European rivals – the exception being Spain, which is well ahead, the support for eastern European countries is currently in the lead.

Please make sure that you vote for the Cubbington pear tree!

06 Cubbington's Champion Wild Pear Tree could be 250 years old - it's on HS2 line and will be destroyed. Frances Wilmot, fwilmot@open-air.biz. P1010564
