Amersham Action Group

Amersham carnival 10 July

Nigel Shepherd, who organised the stand said

'First of all thank you for all of those who were able to help on Saturday, we got an additional 29 names and addresses of supporters and sold £139 of raffle tickets.  In addition I believe we raised the profile of the issue and the group beyond those directly effected in the old town.

From the comments being made, there was pretty much unanimous opposition to the proposals from those who came to us and the main messages being fed back to us were:

·         was that it was such a waste of money
·         the business case doesn’t make sense
·         concern over the environment (chalk and AONB were frequent mentions)

These are things we need to be bearing in mind when putting together future communications.

I attach a couple of pictures of the stand.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Our main money raising  effort locally is the prize draw, please let me know if you can help sell tickets  - I will happily supply as many as you want – the draw date is the end of September so we have plenty of time!

Amersham HS2 Information Day 8 May 2010
Nigel Shepherd, who was in charge of the Amersham Information Day last Saturday 8 May, says:

'We had a hugely successful day on Saturday – at one point had to call on additional help to cope with the demand.  Despite the rain, around four hundred people came from far and wide to find out more about the High Speed Rail proposals and the grossly unfair compensation scheme that the Government are proposing.

The exhibition included a summary of the business case, maps of the different routes, and a petition against the compensation scheme.

The exhibits were manned by volunteers, to help people with their letters, and Council officials as well as rail and other experts on hand to answer questions.

On the day almost eighty compensation consultation forms were completed, and many more were taken away. We had approaching two hundred people signing the petition.  One of the most impressive things was the fact that over fifty more people came forward offering to help  the campaign – we are growing!

My thanks to the tireless volunteers for delivering literally thousands of leaflets in Amersham to make sure everyone knows how to respond on the compensation scheme,  and to all those who helped make the day such a success'.
