HS2 Action Alliance is a not for profit organisation working with over 70 local community groups, which is challenging the case for HS2 and working to get Government to take the right decisions.  HS2 Action Alliance are focusing on the main objective: challenging HS2.  This covers all aspects of the project: economic, business, environmental and technical.  We need expert advice and help in these areas.  Please contact us if you can help.

Objectives:

Challenge HS2:

  • Communicate the facts about HS2 clearly and accurately, highlighting the 6 myths that HS2 is based upon.
  • Emphasising flawed business and environmental case  (see summary and latest review on key issues)
  • Providing robust evidence to demonstrate HS2 will not help cure the north/south divide.
  • Promoting High Speed Rail alternatives to HS2 (see Feb 2011 paper  on alternatives and previous review

Correct the injustice of property blight, by:

  • Identifying causes, quantifying extent & degree of blight (see Property Blight page and Report
  • Emphasising unfair, inequitable and against natural justice (see EHS page and 17 June response )
  • Promoting Alternative Compensation Solution based on private sector best practice (see Summary

Our achievements to date are:

  • Developed the myths on which HS2 is being sold
  • Researched, analysed, developed and delivered to HS2 Ltd an alternative compensation proposal, in co-operation with local action groups see Compensation page.
  • Secured the support of a growing number of councils and consultees, with the assistance of local groups
  • Collaborated with the Chiltern Society to take the campaign to a wider audience
  • Worked in support of local groups that are helping those living or working near one of the proposed routes give voice to their need for fair compensation
  • Secured pre-consultee stakeholder status
  • In conjunction with local groups the length of the line, researched, surveyed and produced a Property Blight Pilot Study Report that demonstrates to HS2 Ltd/DfT the extent of blight on all the routes, and the need for a fair compensation scheme.  Let us know your blight experience.
  • Researched, written and presented at June HS2 Stakeholder Summit 'A Case for Alternatives to HS2' that identifies flaws in the business case and promotes alternatives to HS2 – revision in Feb 2011.
  • Established Taskforce Groups to work on key topics eg the economics of the case for HS2

Our Aims are to:

  • Provide a channel for local groups to share information and analysis, and pool resources to maximise effectiveness.
  • Question, evaluate and where appropriate challenge the economic & environmental case for HS2.
  • Identify and promote alternatives to HS2 that are in the national interest.
  • Seek to minimise the adverse impacts of HS2 on individuals, communities and the environment.
  • Work with local action and community groups, other interested organisations and businesses, to improve Government decision making on HS2.

HS2 Action Alliance is set up as a limited company, which has brought together expertise from other groups.
