PAC report

“The PAC makes devastating criticism – that there is no convincing strategic case; and out of date information and wrong assumptions were used which do not reflect real life.  How much longer do they think the tax payer will listen to their protestations that this £50billion white elephant is vital to the future of the UK’s economy?”

Wider Economic Benefit

Having had the environmental, speed, and business case destroyed, it is not surprising that they have spent a huge amount of tax payers money on new work to come up with the numbers they need to prop up HS2. While the KPMG report has not been made public, we are sure that once you strip out the ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ the huge wider economic benefits will be as robust as Government’s budgeting and business case.”

Capacity

“It is depressing listening to Ministers pushing a case which they know to be untrue. The only long distance services for London that is quieter than at Euston are those of HS1’s at St Pancreas. HS2 will do little or nothing to relieve the serious overcrowding on commuter lines, which is where the problem is. The promised extra capacity for freight and local commuting into London can’t be realised. In the latest business case the spare capacity was used up restoring some long distance passenger connections previously lost.”
